For better sewing results, the most important thing you can do is support your fabric.
The feed mechanism on a sewing machine is dependent on the fabric moving with no resistance. Drag caused by heavy
fabric can fight the feed dogs. A sewing machine has less than a half-inch of contact to control the fabric movement and
those tiny feed dogs under the pressure foot can Only generate a few ounces of pressure to move the fabric. When you
have a sewing project that weighs more than 5 ounces you need to take special precautions to maintain good stitch quality
and not break needles or damage your sewing machine.

Every sewer works better with good tools and one of the most important tools a sewer can have is a good work
bench. The work surface needs to be the correct height to keep your body in a comfortable position and give good
support to your sewing project. Your sewing table needs to keep your fabric flat against the bed of your sewing
machine. It also needs to store your tools and notions. When you have a large project support near the front of
the machine, the fabric is kept from pulling against the needle and feed dogs creating more uniform stitches.
Support behind the sewing machine is very important for the same reason.
